Sausage Gravy and Biscuits Recipe

Sausage Gravy and Biscuits Recipe

Biscuits with sausage gravy has to be one of my all time favorite breakfast meals. It is very easy to make and doesn't take a lot of time or effort and isa relatively inexpensive breakfast meal to make.

The Ingredients that you will need to make sausage gravy and biscuits are:

* 1 Pillsbury canister of buttermilk biscuits
* 1/2 pound of ground hot sausage ( I use Jimmy Dean Hot)
* 1/3 cup all purpose flour
* salt and pepper
* 2 cups of milk

I first start by preheating the oven for putting the pre-made buttermilk biscuits. They usually come in packages of four and you can buy them in most supermarkets around the dairy sections.

In a large skillet I start to cook the half pound of sausage. I usually set it on medium to medium high. I tear the sausage into small pieces and brown it very good.

Once the hot ground sausage has browned really well, and leaving the grease in, I pour into the skillet the all purpose flour.Stirring and mixing it well on a heat setting of a less than the medium high setting.

After stirring it some together I start adding the milk one cup at a time. Getting the consistency correct is a matter of experimenting over time with it. It tends to want to get thick on me, so I usually add a good couple of cups of milk total, and stir constantly.

When you are done it should be a little on the thin side as far as the gravies consistency. Let that bubble and cook while stirring. I then will salt and pepper it. I use black pepper and crushed red pepper.

Its about this time, If I time it well, that the biscuits in the oven are ready. I will pop them out of the oven.

I take about three or four biscuits and open them up on a plate. I then take some of the sausage gravy and ladle the gravy on top of the biscuits. I normally spice it up with a little more salt, black pepper and red pepper. I like mine very hot and spicy.

Its not the most health conscious of all breakfast meals, of that I am sure. But whoa boy is it good!

I often will have a biscuit with orange marmalade or apple butter as a dessert. It kind of tones the spicy gravy down a little.

I hope you enjoy this recipe for sausage gravy and biscuits as much as I have over the years. It truly is one of my all time favorite breakfast meals.

I usually serve it up with a large glass of cold milk! That also helps take some of the heat out of the spice!
